Họ đi xe buýt đến. Họ đi bằng ôtô.
Họ đi bằng xích lô. Họ đi xe đạp.
Họ đi bộ, như tôi.

Chúng tôi đến cổng trường. Mẹ buông tay tôi ra.
Mẹ đứng lại ở cổng. Tôi phải đi vào trong một mình.
Có rất nhiều gương mặt mới lạ quanh tôi.

Tôi bước một bước. Tôi bước thêm bước nữa. Tôi ngoái nhìn lại. Bóng mẹ tôi nhỏ dần khi tôi bước đi. Liệu
mẹ có biến mất?
Tôi chạy về phía mẹ. Tôi không thấy mình trưởng thành nữa. Tôi nắm lấy tay mẹ.
"Mẹ đừng đi," tôi nói.

Tất cả mọi người đã vào trong. Tôi là người duy nhất còn ở ngoài. Cô giáo đi ra. Cô mỉm cười. Tôi mỉm cười
lại.
Mẹ nói, "Rani, mẹ sẽ ở đây khi con quay lại."
Tôi buông tay mẹ. Mẹ vẫy chào tôi.
